(Washington, DC) Starting at 7 am tomorrow the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close southbound South Dakota Avenue, NE between Riggs Road and Kennedy Street for approximately 48 hours. While southbound South Dakota Avenue remains closed a single northbound traffic lane will be kept open. These closures will be required so that crews may accelerate the preparation activities for the upcoming permanent closure of the Riggs Road ramp to South Dakota that is scheduled to occur on or about March 12.

On northbound South Dakota Avenue motorists will be permitted to make a left, right or go straight at Riggs Road.

On southbound South Dakota Avenue motorists traveling eastbound on Riggs Road will be able to access South Dakota Avenue from the Riggs Road ramp. Motorists traveling westbound on Riggs Road and southbound on 3rd Street will be directed to 1st Street to access South Dakota Avenue.

Variable message signs will be in place to guide motorists through the area. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to stay alert and use caution when traveling by the work zone.

Questions regarding this work may be directed to the Public Outreach Coordinator, Veronica O. Davis, PE, via email vdavis@nspiregreen.com or at (202) 695-2160.
