(Washington, DC) – As part of the 11th Street Bridge Project, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will reduce the westbound SE Freeway to a single lane immediately following the morning rush hour on Monday, September 17, 2012.
Motorists should also expect a complete temporary closure along this portion of the Freeway beginning at 8 pm on Monday, September 17, with a single lane reopening at 5 am Tuesday morning. This full closure is required so that crews can safely relocate concrete traffic barrier to create the permanent single lane condition.

In early November, the remaining westbound lane will be closed and by January 2013 the eastbound lanes will also be closed.
The full closure of the SE Freeway will remain in place for approximately 18 to 20 months while crews fill the roadway to restore it to the local street elevation.
Detour:
Motorists are advised to begin using the new I-695 Inbound Freeway Bridge from southbound DC-295 to reach the SE/SW Freeway and I-395 and to avoid possible commute delays and traffic congestion. This route is shown on the graphic below.

In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, the lane closure will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.
