Overnight Closures Planned for Eastbound and Westbound SE-SW Freeway
Lane closures will allow crews to install bridge girders for a new freeway bridge

DDOT will close the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, between 11th Street, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, during overnight hours December 12 through December 14.

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced it will close the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, between 11th Street, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, during overnight hours December 12 through December 14. The 9th Street, SE entrance ramp to the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway will also be closed during this time. The lane closures will allow crews to install bridge girders over the Southeast/Southwest Freeway for a new freeway bridge.
- Closure will start at 10 pm on Monday, December 12 and continue through 5 am the following morning.
- Closure will start at 10 pm on Tuesday, December 13 and continue through 5 am the following morning.
- Closure will start at 10 pm on Wednesday, December 14 and continue through 5 am the following morning.
Motorists will also encounter a single lane closure on the northbound lanes of 11th Street, SE between L and K Streets during the same time period. Pedestrians will also encounter a sidewalk closure on the northbound side of 11th Street, SE between L and K Streets and will be directed to use the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street.
Detours
During the lane closures, signed detours will be posted.
- Motorists traveling eastbound on the Southeast/Southwest Freeway will be detoured to southbound South Capitol Street to the Douglass Bridge to Suitland Parkway to the I-295 northbound on-ramp and then to Pennsylvania Avenue.
- Motorists traveling westbound on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will be detoured to southbound I-295 and then onto South Capitol Street to access the westbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway, Interstate 395, and destinations located via M Street, SE.
Electronic signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour.
In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.
These closures are in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, and I-295/DC 295.
