(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the northbound lanes of the Anacostia Freeway (I-295/DC 295) between Howard Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE starting at 10 pm on Tuesday, March 13 through 5 am the following morning. Motorists may also encounter 20 minute intermittent traffic stoppages along this stretch between 12 am and 5 am on Thursday, March 15. The road closure and 20 minute traffic stoppages will allow DDOT to erect bridge girders over the Anacostia Freeway for a new freeway bridge.
During the road closure, signed detours will be posted.
Detour
Northbound DC 295 traffic will be detoured onto the new 11th Street inbound bridge, to M Street, SE to access the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway using the 9th Street, SE entrance ramp.
From eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway, motorists will access northbound DC 295(Anacostia Freeway) via Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.
Variable message signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour.
In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.
This closure is in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, and I-295/DC 295.
