WASHINGTON, DC — As part of the 11th Street Bridge Project, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the southbound lane of 8th Street, SE between Virginia Avenue, SE and I Street, SE on Monday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 11, 2013. The closures will take place from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. The northbound traffic lane will remain open during this time.
In addition, the Department will close all lanes of 8th Street, SE between Virginia Avenue, SE and I Street, SE on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from noon until 6:00 pm. The closures are needed for crews to begin demolition operations on the existing bridge over 8th Street, SE for construction of a new 8th Street entrance ramp to eastbound I-695.
Signed detours will be posted during the closures.
Southbound 8th Street, SE traffic will be detoured onto I Street, SE to 7th Street, SE, to access 8th Street, SE via Virginia Ave, SE.
Northbound 8th Street, SE traffic will follow the posted detour route to 7th Street, SE, then to G Street, SE to access 8th Street, SE north of I Street, SE.
In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.
