DDOT Tunnel Maintenance Schedule 

Maintenance activities throughout the Districts tunnel network will be conducted starting Sunday, July 8 through Saturday, August 4; weather permitting.

Maintenance activities throughout the Districts tunnel network will be conducted starting Sunday, July 8 through Saturday, August 4; weather permitting.

(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will be conducting maintenance activities throughout the Districts tunnel network starting Sunday, July 8 through Saturday, August 4; weather permitting.

The tunnel work will is schedule to occur after the rush hour periods to avoid traffic congestion. Listed below are the locations, date/time and type of closure that will be associated with this maintenance activity.

16th Street, NW under Scott Circle Tunnel 8 pm on Sunday, July 8 to 4 am the following day Tunnel closed
K Street, NW under Washington Circle 8 pm on Monday, July 9 to 4 am the following day Tunnel closed
Massachusetts Avenue, NW under Thomas Circle Tuesday, July 10 10 am – 3 pm Single E/B right lane closures
Mall Tunnel 7 pm on Wednesday, July 11 to 4 am the following day Rotating closures single left lane followed by 2-right lane closures
Massachusetts Avenue, NW under Thomas Circle 8 pm on Thursday, July 12 to 4 am the following day Tunnel closed one direction
Connecticut Avenue, NW under DuPont Circle 8 pm on Thursday, July 12 to 4 am the following day Rotating tunnel closures, N/B then S/B
Barney Circle Ramp 8 pm on Sunday, July 15 to 4 am the following day N/B then S/B single left lane closures
Virginia Avenue, NW under 23rd Street, NW Thursday, July 19 8 pm – 11:30 pm Tunnel closed E/B direction
I-395 N/B ramp under SW Freeway Monday, July 23 8 pm – 12 am Single left lane closure
Mall Tunnel 8 pm on Tuesday, July 24 to 4 am the following day Rotating single left and right lane closures
I-66 White Hurst Freeway 8 pm on Tuesday, July 31 to 4 am the following day N/B and S/B rotating single left lane closures
E Street Expressway 11:30 pm on Wednesday, August 1 to 4 am the following day Single left lane closure
12th Street North & South 8 pm on Wednesday, August 1 to 4 am the following day Single left lane closure
9th Street 8 pm on Friday, August 3 to 4 am the following day Single left lane closure


Variable messages signs will be in place at each location to alert and guide motorists.
