(Washington, DC) – Construction work along the H Street/Benning Road to ready the corridor for DC Streetcar continues. During the months of January and February, work will include surveying activities, track bonding and utility relocations.
Impacts
Surveying activities: Occasional sidewalk and lane closures to provide access to manholes and test digs to identify/locate utilities at 3rd Street, 6th-9th Streets, 12th Street and 23rd Street to east of Oklahoma Avenue.
Track bonding: Alternating lane closures to maintain traffic flow at each of eleven locations between 3rd Street and East of Oklahoma Avenue. Track bonding (or cross-bonding) ensures the efficiency of the traction power system by connecting heavy-gauge wire from rail to rail and track to track.
Utility relocations: Sidewalk and lane closures to allow for open trench work at 3rd Street, 6th-9th Streets, 12th Street and 23rd Street to east of Oklahoma Avenue to move various utility lines.
Lane closures will be well-marked. Parking may also be affected.
