Detour

Media Contacts

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will permanently close the 8th Street exit ramp from the westbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway at approximately 10 am on May 10, 2012. This ramp currently provides access to the Marine Barracks and 8th Street/Barracks Row area for traffic traveling westbound on the Freeway from Pennsylvania Avenue.

Detours

Traffic currently accessing the ramp from Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and Barney Circle will be detoured north on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE to turn left at Potomac Avenue, SE. Traffic will then continue on Potomac Avenue, SE turning right onto I Street, SE. Traffic can access 8th Street and the Marine Barracks area via I Street, SE.

Electronic signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of this detour and to guide them along the detour route.

The detour will remain in effect until the opening of the new DC 295 Southbound Ramp to I-695 Inbound which will have a direct connection to I Street at 10th Street, SE. This new ramp is expected to open by July 4, 2012. Access to 8th Street/Barracks Row will be provided along this new route.

The exit to 8th Street, SE/Barracks Row from the inbound 11th Street Bridge (I-695) will not be impacted by this work and will remain open.
