(Washington, DC) Starting Friday, May 6, 2011, weather permitting, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is scheduled to implement 30-day “Emergency No Parking” restrictions on the north and south sides of the 1300 and 1400 blocks of H Street, NE.
During this period, beginning at 12:01 am on Friday, parking will be prohibited at all times on both sides of H Street from 13th Street to 1411 H Street.
The restrictions are necessary to accommodate the next phase of roadway reconstruction in this section. DDOT will complete a major portion of the north curb lane construction, including building the new sidewalks, by Thursday, May 5, 2011. Then the north curb lane and the south middle lane will be used as westbound traffic lanes, while DDOT works on the reconstruction of the north middle lane.
The south curb lane, which has been open for parking, can no longer be used for parking because it will have to become the eastbound traffic lane while construction is underway in the north middle lane, which will take approximately one week, to be followed by construction of the south middle lane, also taking about one week.
After both middle lanes are constructed, DDOT will begin construction on the south side. At that time, the north curb lane will be re-opened for parking.
Temporary signs and traffic control measures will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public through this area.
The work is part of DDOT’s H Street Reconstruction Project which is scheduled for substantial completion on June 30, 2011. More information about the project is available on the DDOT website, at dashboard.ddot.dc.gov under the Ward 6 Projects Link, or by contacting the project field office at (202) 544-7603.
