(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced it will reopen the commercial weigh station on the Interstate 295 corridor on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. The reopening of the station is part of a focused citywide effort to ensure commercial vehicles are in compliance with the District’s vehicle size and weight regulations for roadway preservation and safety.

The city’s diverse mixture of land uses, dense urban environment and extensive transportation infrastructure require a distinct set of rules and regulations to govern the operation of trucks and commercial vehicles. In order for this system to function efficiently the District of Columbia has size and weight restrictions that limit the weight and size of the vehicles that can legally operate on District roadways.
