Due to favorable weather, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has completed the temporary repair of the Broad Branch Road culvert over Soapstone Creek. The collapse of the culvert created a travel emergency for residents and businesses in northwest DC.
Broad Branch Road was opened to traffic on February 1, 2012, two days ahead of schedule. Final paving was complete last weekend. The metal liner was grouted in-place and the concrete materials were tested to assure quality. The contractor also completed spot repairs to the historic stone headwalls. The intent of these repairs is to keep Broad Branch Road open while the environmental assessment (EA) and design are completed for the improvement of Broad Branch Road. Following the reopening, the contractor will be removing the signs that were posted over the Connecticut Avenue detour.
DDOT appreciates the public’s patience and continued interest that the closing of Broad Branch created and apologizes for the inconvenience to motorists and the adjacent neighborhood. DDOT will continue to provide Travel Advisory notifications and updates on Broad Branch Road as required.
