Beginning October 1, 2012, all applications for public space permits must include an electronic submission of all required materials. This can be done through the Document Upload feature of the District Department of Transportation's (DDOT) Transportation Online Permitting System (TOPS)
. Electronic submission of material is a fast, simple, safe, and convenient way to ensure your application will be processed in a timely, complete, and efficient manner. It also provides an automatic document retention system that prevents the loss of plans and the ability to retrieve plans automatically in the future.
DDOT's Public Space Regulation Administration (PSRA) and Office of Information Technology and Innovation (OITI) have worked together to develop TOPS, a state-of-the-art online permit processing system. The document upload feature includes automatic indexing and accepts documents in a variety of formats. DDOT will host training for all persons interested in using this innovative feature of its cutting edge program. Announcements of training dates and times will be announced shortly.
PSRA will assist residential property owners that are submitting material on their own behalf as well as small businesses that are not directly or indirectly associated with the property development and construction trades by providing scanning services at the Permit Center on the 2nd floor of 1100 4th Street, SW
. All other applicants and parties serving as agents for applicants are expected to provide their material electronically online. We strongly encourage everyone interested in this program to take advantage of our training.
If you have any questions about this requirement please contact PSRA at (202) 442-4670. Our Customer Service office will be happy to assist.
