(Washington, DC) – District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Terry Bellamy will hold an online live chat at 12 pm on Wednesday, October 10 to hear directly from residents about drainage problems in the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park neighborhoods. Residents from these neighborhoods are invited to join or follow the discussion on the web at ddot.dc.gov/chatlive.

The chat is intended to identify areas that are in need of infrastructure improvements because stormwater ponds in the roadway or bypasses catch basins, or where the catch basin are undersized.

Live Chat Details

DDOT along with DC Water and the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) were tasked by the Mayor’s Task Force on the Relief of Flooding in Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park with identifying short-and long-range solutions to address the flooding problem in these neighborhoods. The short-term measures that have been identified include:

• Analyzing the effectiveness of, and installing additional storm drains in affected areas;
• Installing stormwater-retention features in the affected area to lessen runoff due to heavy rains; and
• Assisting residents in the neighborhood with installation of rain barrels to collect runoff from rooftops during storms, thereby decreasing the stormwater loads that the sewer system must handle.

During the one-hour open forum, Director Bellamy will also provide an update on the short-term solutions planned to lessen the flooding impacts. Personnel from DC Water will also be on hand to collect comments and assist with providing information.
