(Washington, DC) Due to a potential government shutdown the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has rescheduled tomorrow’s planned public meeting for the Far Northeast Livability Study. The meeting has been moved to Saturday, April 30, 2011.

At this meeting DDOT officials will present the proposed transportation and mobility improvements that were identified through the Far Northeast Livability Study.

DDOT has held two of the three public meetings that were planned as part of the public participatory process for this study. At this final public meeting DDOT will provide a comprehensive review of proposed solutions to deal with transportation concerns raised by the community to date and discuss the next steps for implementing these solutions. Residents are encouraged to participate and provide feedback to help finalize the study.

Livability Program Overview

Far Northeast is one of 3 multi-neighborhood areas DDOT is currently evaluating as part of its new Livability Program. The studies support not only DDOT’s desire to create more “livable” spaces for residents but also US DOT’s recent Livability Initiative which includes goals to provide more transportation choices, provide more sustainable alternatives, safer streets, and improve the quality of life and opportunity for residents.

A website is available that links to each study, provides information on the public outreach component, highlights discussions and recommendations, and allows for further interaction from the community.
