(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is hosting a public meeting for the Barney Circle and Southeast Boulevard Transportation Planning Study. The study will investigate transforming the former Southeast Freeway into a boulevard that is integrated with adjacent neighborhoods between the new 11th Street Bridge and Barney Circle. The portion of the Southeast Freeway between 11th Street SE and Pennsylvania Avenue SE is no longer considered part of the Interstate Highway System and provides an opportunity for adaptive reuse of this roadway and right of way. The public is invited to attend and hear about the details of this study and future plans for this area. Representatives from DDOT and the project’s technical team will be on hand to answer questions.

The Barney Circle and Southeast Boulevard Transportation Planning Study is one in a series of transportation, environmental, economic, community and recreation projects included in the larger Anacostia Waterfront Initiative Program. From the Tidal Basin to the city’s northeast border with Maryland, the 30-year, $10 billion AWI Program is transforming the shores of the Anacostia River into a world-class waterfront.

For more information, to follow the progress of the environmental assessment for the study or to join the email distribution list for the project, please visit www.anacostiawaterfront.org/BarneyCircle External Website or send an email to barneycircle@prrbiz.com. To join the project or AWI community contact list or ask questions, please email ddot.awi@dc.gov or call (202) 741-8528.
