(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host a public meeting on September 26, 2012 to review roadway improvements that are being recommended to enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety on 17th and 19th Streets between Benning Road, NE and Potomac Avenue, SE. At this meeting we will review the recommended safety improvements for the project area. The recommendations represent the consensus of input from the three previous public meetings held for this project. This will be the final public meeting; the next steps will be ANC notification and project design.

Project Description: This project identifies and recommends roadway improvements to enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety on 17th and 19th Streets between Benning Road, NE and Potomac Avenue, SE. As part of the safety improvement initiative for this corridor, DDOT is further evaluating the transportation safety improvements that were identified in the 2006 Capitol Hill Infrastructure Study to determine which improvements will be most feasible to implement. Included in the improvements being evaluated for this corridor are new roadway markings and signage, curb extensions (also known as bulb-outs), ADA crosswalk ramps, and traffic signal upgrades.

For more information about these meetings or safety improvement initiative please contact the project manager Mr. Errol Williams at (202) 347-1446 or errol.williams@mckissackdc.com.
