(WASHINGTON, DC) — Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced today that he has selected Terry Bellamy as the permanent director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT).

Mr. Bellamy has served as the department’s Interim Director since the start of the Gray administration.

“Terry Bellamy is a proven professional who has demonstrated innovative leadership at every level and has done an effective job moving DDOT forward as Interim Director,” said Mayor Gray.

Terry Bellamy has worked at DDOT since 2008. He played a key role in the receipt and successful execution of $123 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding for recent District transportation capital projects. Before joining DDOT, he served for eight years as the Bureau Chief of Transportation, Engineering and Operations with the Arlington County, Va., Transportation Department. He has also held leadership positions in both Fayetteville and Greensboro, N.C. During his tenure in Greensboro, Bellamy worked on the creation of the Greensboro Transit Authority and the city’s Long Range Transportation Plan. Earlier in his career he was recruited by Johnson C. Smith University as interim director of the school’s Department of Urban Studies & Community Affairs.

Mr. Bellamy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Carolina A&T University, a Master of Urban Studies and Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University, and an Executive Certificate from Pennsylvania State University’s Executive Management Program for Transportation and Highway Engineers. He lives in Ward 6.
