(Washington, DC) Today the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced it has published the Design Criteria and Standard Drawings Manual for the DC Streetcar system.

The DC Streetcar Design Criteria is a recommended set of uniform and minimum guidelines for use in the development, design, engineering, and implementation of the DC Streetcar Program. The manual provides a general framework for a uniform streetcar design and helps DDOT, partner agencies, consultants, planners, engineers and other professionals develop preliminary and final design plans.

“With our design criteria now completed we have a key resource on hand that further enables us to successfully deliver the planned 37-mile streetcar system,” said DDOT Chief Engineer Ronaldo ‘Nick’ Nicholson.

The DC Streetcar Design Criteria was prepared under the guidance of DDOT ‘s agency wide technical working group along with input from other government agencies such as the District Department of the Environment (DDOE), Arlington County, Virginia and private utility representatives from Pepco, Verizon and Sprint/Nextel.

The DC Streetcar Design Criteria is intended to serve as a living document that will evolve to reflect changes in environment, industry, engineering, operation, and maintenance, and policy.

The Design Criteria and Standard Drawings Manual for the DC Streetcar system is available online at: http://ddot.dc.gov/DC/DDOT/Projects+and+Planning/Standards+and+Guidelines/DC+Streetcar+Design+Criteria.
