(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today released an Action Agenda Progress Report, detailing the agency’s measurable achievements over the past year and setting new benchmarks to move the District forward over the next two years.

“I am very proud of how much DDOT’s dedicated employees have accomplished,” said DDOT Director Gabe Klein. “Their work has helped make this city safer and more livable, and improved the transportation system to the benefit of all District residents, workers and visitors. They also know there’s still work to be done and they will continue to advance the ambitious programs and policies set out in the Action Agenda.”

The Action Agenda, originally released in early 2010, focuses on core values and functions: safety; sustainability; maintenance and investment in capital assets; identifying prosperous places; and investing in the DDOT workforce. For each core value, the Progress Report highlights actions that have been completed, updates initiatives that are still in progress, and adds new actions to accomplish over the next two years.

The specific accomplishments already completed include:

• Launched Capital Bikeshare with more than 110 stations and 1,000 bikes
• Formalized a multi-disciplinary “Safety Team” to review every capital project
• Adopted a Complete Streets Policy
• Elevated the streetcar to “megaproject’ status with a dedicated team
• Expanded DC Circulator system
• Implemented DC Circulator Dashboard
• Used technology to more effectively manage on-street parking
• Implemented solar powered parking meters that are part of an interactive network
• Introduced “pay-by-phone” parking technology
• Increased marketing and private sector promotion of non-motorized modes
• Launched Transportation Online Permitting System (TOPS) to streamline permitting process
• Expanded enforcement powers of Traffic Control Officers
• Established the first electric vehicle charging station in the public right of way
• Piloted the use of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting fixtures
• Deployed a universal system for utility coordination and hired full time Utility Program Coordinator
• Launched a tree steward program
• Created d.University program with a specific curriculum for each job in the agency
