The Office of the Surveyor records Plats and Plans of Condominiums in the District of Columbia. The documents are drawn and certified by engineers, architects and surveyors licensed in the District of Columbia. The Surveyor’s Office does not produce these plats and plans, only records them. The Office accepts these documents for recording once all certifications for these documents has occurred. There is a fee for recording these documents. The base fee is $390.00 plus $20.00 per sheet, and a 10% enhancement fee.
Once submitted the document is checked for completeness and a fee is assessed. Once the fee is paid the document is recorded and copies are sent to the Office of Tax and Revenue for review and the assignment of lot numbers for the units. The condominium law can be found in the District of Columbia Code Title 42 Chapter 19.
