The District of Columbia imposed a permanent moratorium on the issuance of any permits for the erection or construction of a "Special Sign." Only 32 Special Signs are legally allowed to exist in the District. Under D.C. law, a Special Sign is not a billboard. The Special Signs can be moved from location to location within limited boundaries.

Below is a listing of all legal Special Signs locations, along with information on each Special Sign's permit holder, when the location was approved, and the dimensions of each Special Sign. The photos do not reflect the artwork that is currently on each Special Sign, but are intended to show the general location of each Special Sign for easy identification by the public.
