The DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) has exclusive authority to classify vacant buildings. DCRA regularly monitors the District's more than 185,000 properties and investigates complaints from residents and referrals from other agencies and organizations.
The Proactive Inspections program goal is to inspect all multi-unit rental properties in the District of Columbia. Now all 4,300 plus multi-family rental properties in the District of Columbia will be inspected whether or not DCRA ever receives a single complaint.
The property owner, their agent or the Third Party Agency under contract with the property owner must submit a Notice of Intent to Use Third Party Inspection Agency form for their project.
