Update: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Vending Regulations 24 DCMR 5

Story at a Glance

On June 25, 2010, the DC Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs, which oversees the street vending program, proposed new regulations to advance the District's efforts to make its sidewalks a vibrant place of business with dynamic food options.

The official comment period for this proposed rulemaking ended on August 31, 2010, with more than 2,300 comments received.

The proposed vending regulations (Title 24, Chapter 5 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations) seek to achieve the safe, efficient, and effective management of vending throughout the District of Columbia. The proposed regulations include provisions governing vending licensure, vendor operations, the designation of sidewalk and roadway vending locations, public markets, vending development zones, street photography, and solicitation from the public space.

Because of the continued significant public interest in the status of revisions of the proposed regulations, DCRA is making available a working draft of the revisions. The working draft reflects changes made to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking published in the D.C. Register on June 25, 2010. This working draft is for informational purposes only and is not a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.
